16th Annual Tasmanian Geosciences Forum

The Tasmania Branch invite you to their 16th Annual Tasmanian Geosciences Forum!

About this event

The AusIMM Tasmania Branch, GSA, AIG and Mineral Resources Tasmania are pleased to bring you the 16th Annual Tasmanian Geoscience Forum.

The purpose of this forum is to gather geoscientists in one place to share their progress in exploration, mining and research.

This event is for sharing geologically focused results and ideas and for learning more about geology, in particular the geology of Tasmania.

This year the event will return to the Paragon Theatre in sunny Queenstown Tasmania!

A range of field excursions will be available on Friday 27 November (full details to be confirmed).

Stanley and Rocky Cape Geological Excursion

Join Karen Orth for an engaging one-and-a-half-day field excursion exploring some of Tasmania's oldest and youngest rocks along the state's north-west coast.

The excursion will commence from the Sisters Beach area at 12.30 pm on Friday 27 November. Participants will visit geological exposures of the Rocky Cape Group at Sisters Beach and, subject to conditions, Rocky Cape, as well as the volcanic rock formations in the Stanley area.

Participants may attend one or both days of the excursion and will be responsible for arranging their own transport, accommodation and meals.

Further details, including the meeting location and itinerary, will be provided to registered participants closer to the event date.

Site tour of the Henty Gold Mine

Attendees will also have the opportunity to join a site tour of the Henty Gold Mine, hosted by Kaiser Reef, on Friday 27 November. Participants will meet at the mine gate at 9.00 am before touring the operation. The tour is expected to include visits to the core shed, processing facility, and surface geology sites of interest. A detailed itinerary will be provided to registered participants closer to the event date.

Keep an eye out for details of a pre-conference technical workshop in Queenstown on Wednesday 25 November - to be announced.
