About this event

The AusIMM Adelaide Branch is pleased to present ‘Operating with No Margin for Error - What Mining Can Learn from Aviation Governance, Reliability and Risk’ as our May 2026 Technical Talk. We are honoured to have Laura Benger, CEO of Maroomba Airlines as our esteemed speaker. 

Laura will explore the parallels between aviation and mining, particularly in FIFO operations and remote resource projects. She will discuss how disciplined systems, clear accountability, risk management and strong safety governance support reliability where there is little room for error.

Laura will also examine how aviation reliability directly impacts mining productivity, workforce movement, fatigue, safety and site continuity, and share practical leadership insights for building trust, operational transparency and cultures of shared accountability.

Chief Executive Officer of Maroomba Airlines
Laura Benger is the Chief Executive Officer of Maroomba Airlines, an Australian aviation organisation with more than 40 years’ experience supporting the mining and resources sector through FIFO and charter aviation services.

With a background in science, business and psychology, and 15 years of executive leadership experience across resources, healthcare, manufacturing and aviation, Laura brings a practical, people-focused perspective to leading in complex, high-consequence environments.

Laura brings deep cross sector experience spanning aviation, mining and manufacturing, and is also Non Executive Chair of Miners’ Promise, supporting families impacted by mining related tragedies.
