This presentation will explore how life cycle thinking, transparent supply chains, and circularity can strengthen Australia's competitiveness in the global clean energy transition.

Drawing on extensive research and industry collaboration, Professor Damien Giurco will share practical insights into emerging opportunities, policy developments, and evolving market expectations, highlighting how responsible resource stewardship can create long-term value across the mining and metals value chain.

Damien Giurco

Circular Economy Chair at the University of Melbourne
Professor Damien Giurco is the inaugural Chair of Circular Economy at The University of Melbourne and Adjunct Professor at the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures, where he previously spent two decades in leadership and research roles, including Distinguished Professor and Associate Director Research. His work focuses on responsible prosperity, spanning responsible minerals and metals, material requirements for the clean energy transition, circular economy, and innovation across water, waste and resource sectors.

Damien collaborates extensively with industry and government, with research informing policy and practice across Australia. He currently serves as Deputy Director in the Australian Research Council Training Centre for Resource Efficient Alloys in a Circular Economy and leads the Circular Economy Program within the Solving Plastics Waste CRC. He is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
