How to design and build fast-ramp-up plants

1
PD Hours

What can decades of global plant design and delivery tell us about “what good looks like” and how to consistently achieve cost‑effective outcomes as projects grow in size and complexity? Join Ausenco (an AusIMM Major Partner) to find out more in this free webinar.

About this event

What can we learn from the last few decades of plant design and delivery - from the Australian gold boom of the 1980s–90s, through South‑East Asia copper and gold projects in the 2000s, North American gold projects, critical and industrial minerals, and recent large concentrators in Chile.

What are the consistent themes of “what good looks like”? How has engineering and project delivery evolved, and where is project value most commonly created, or lost from studies through execution and ramp‑up? And what changes as projects grow in size, complexity? What are the key factors when working across continents and cultures?

Hear from Matt Pyle (Chief Technical Officer) and Simon Beddow (Vice President Project Execution) as they answer these questions and share their experiences from designing and delivering projects around the world.

Speaker/s

Matt Pyle

Chief Technical Officer
Ausenco
Matt has over 15 years’ experience in minerals and metals processing plant design, commissioning and optimisation. He leads Ausenco’s Technical Solutions group, driving innovation and value across all project stages. Matt has overseen high-profile concentrator designs and managed successful performance testing and vendor warranties on projects like Carrapateena, Mantoverde, Mina Justa and Magino.

Simon Beddow

Vice President, Project Execution – APAC/Africa
Ausenco
Simon is an accomplished Project Director with more than 20 years in project management, construction, engineering, and mining. He most recently led Ausenco’s Zafranal Project in Peru and has held senior roles with MMG Limited and EPIC Steel. Simon has managed major mining and infrastructure projects, including Las Bambas and Constancia Copper, and is known for his driven, approachable leadership style and focus on stakeholder outcomes.

Campbell Haines

Technical Consultant – Comminution
Ausenco
Campbell joined Ausenco in 2025 after an operational career in the copper-gold industry, most notably as the metallurgical superintendent at Cadia Operations in NSW, Australia.

At Ausenco, Campbell focuses on the development, innovation and evaluation of new technologies and flowsheet strategies within the global comminution group. He provides critical input for engineering design projects, collaborates with operational teams, and assesses the economics of enhanced process technologies, such as dry comminution, coarse particle flotation and bulk ore sorting. Campbell is a leader in assessing and improving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) outcomes for projects related to tailings, water, and energy.

Campbell holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgy) from Curtin University in Western Australia and is a chartered professional with AusIMM. In 2025, he was awarded the prestigious CEEC medal for Operation and Design.
