From trials to real-world results: the evolution of the MC51
Explore how the MC51 has progressed from concept and early trials to field application and examine the practical lessons shaping the future of continuous mechanical cutting in hard rock.
About this event
Continuous mechanical cutting presents a different approach to underground development, but what has been learned from taking the technology from concept to field application?
Delivered in partnership with Komatsu, An AusIMM Industry Partner, this webinar will provide an update on the development and application of the MC51 continuous miner. It will examine lessons from early testing and recent field results, including what has worked, the challenges encountered and the operational factors influencing outcomes.
The presentation will explore cutting performance, machine utilisation and reliability in hard-rock mining and tunnelling environments. Attendees will gain a clearer view of the technology’s current capability, how it has evolved and where continuous mechanical cutting could create value in future underground projects.
What attendees will gain:
- Technical and operational lessons from MC51 trials;
- Factors influencing cutting performance in hard-rock conditions;
- Machine utilisation and reliability considerations;
- Ground conditions and project types that may suit continuous mechanical cutting;
- Comparisons with conventional drill-and-blast development, subject to partner approval; and
- The further developments required to support operational and commercial performance.
