Speaker/s

Joe Houldsworth

Prospector ; Associated with Wattle Dam Discovery
Joe came to Australia as an 18 year old migrant determined to embrace the Australian way of life and make his fortune prospecting. Though taking a lot longer than expected, he finally made it with the spectacular gold discovery of the Wattle Dam Gold Mine in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia, leading to the birth of Ramelius Resources Ltd. Considered one of the highest grade gold mines in Australia at the time, finding Wattle Dam was as probable as winning the lotto — but unlike Lotto, its discovery took more than luck; it took hard work and determination. Joe met his wife and raised a family in Kalgoorlie, a town of ups and downs, booms and busts, where he worked everything from the most menial jobs to the best paid roles. This could only happen in Kalgoorlie.
