About this event
Mining Society Distinguished lecture: Dr Joe Cronin on “Closing The Loop - Why Remote Data Acquisition is the Key to Increased Safety and Productivity"
As mining operations become deeper, more remote and increasingly complex, traditional inspection methods are struggling to keep pace. Rising demand for critical minerals, combined with ESG pressures and workforce shortages, is driving the need for smarter, data-driven approaches.
Join Dr Joe Cronin as he explores how sensor-rich robotic platforms are transforming mine inspections through automated, remote data capture. Learn how these technologies improve safety, reduce production downtime and unlock valuable real-time insights that help operators better manage risk, boost productivity and move closer to the vision of Zero Entry Mining.
Geoffrey Newcombe on The Syerston Scandium Project - A NSW Critical Minerals Success Story"
The Syerston Scandium Project is one of Australia's most advanced critical minerals developments and is set to establish New South Wales as a global supplier of scandium—a rare metal essential for next-generation aerospace, defence, clean energy and semiconductor technologies.
Located in the Central West of NSW, the fully permitted, development-ready project hosts one of the world's largest and highest-grade scandium resources, providing a secure Western source of this strategically important critical mineral.
Join Project Director Geoffrey Newcombe as he talks through where the Syerston Project is at and why scandium has become a metal governments and manufacturers are watching closely.
Dean Fredericksen on "The Maronan Ag/Pb Cu/Au Project: QLD’s next big UG Mine."
The Maronan Project has been more than 30 years in the making and now on a trajectory to production. This Silver rich deposit in GOD’s Country (Land of the Giant Ore Deposits) has many strings to its bow and will be a very long lived large scale underground operation in the near future.
Maronan Metals has an active drill program and Pre-Feasibility study underway to support the continued development of the project. This talk will outline the geology, mining and permitting consideration of this project situated approximately 60 km South East of Cloncurry.
Dean is a Mine Geologist with more than 30 years’ experience leading geology and mine geology and project teams throughout Australia, USA, Canada, China and NZ. He has been an Site GM, COO and consulted to leading companies. Dean Fredericksen is currently the Project Director for Maronan Metals Ltd (MMA) and has been working on the project since 2022.
