August Tech Talk - Linking Mineralogy to Friction Angles of Bedding Partings in Shales
Join the Perth Branch in August for the first geotechnical presentation of the year, presented by Dr Arturo Maldonado!
About this event
Following on from the highly sucessful panel session in July, Dr Maldonado will present his research on the use of spectral datasets as a link to understand the weathering and friction angles of bedding planes in shales.
Dr Maldonado will use his extensive experience of operations in the Pilbara to outline the work and results of his research. Do doubt that this will be of interest to geologists and mining engineers who touch on these areas.
Please join us for an intriguing evening.
This event is supported by the Branch with food and some drinks provided before the presentation. The Branch encourages you to come along to support the work of the Branch members.

Speaker/s
Arturo Maldonado
Arturo’s spent his early career working as a geotechnical engineer in operations at Tintaya and Antamina (Peru), and Mt Keith (Australia). He moved to Principal Engineer for BHP Iron Ore in 2010 conducting design studies, and to Superintendent for studies and planning in 2019 delivering geotechnical studies up to Feasibility Study level.
Arturo received the degree of PhD in Civil Engineering with a subject on Rock Mechanics, from the University of Western Australia for researching on “the shear strength of bedding planes in shales from the Pilbara”.
