Join the Perth Branch for their in-person and livestream September tech talk: Keep the Money Wheel Turning - Seeing Inside the SAG Mill.

About this event

SAG mills exist in most operations and are often referred to as the “Money Wheel”. Keeping the Money Wheel turning and optimising the output is a critical part of running successful mining operations.

Understanding how ore characteristics and operating conditions influence SAG mill performance remains one of the key challenges in mineral processing. Variations in ore competency, blending strategies, and feed characteristics can significantly impact throughput, energy efficiency, liner life, and downstream product recovery.

This presentation explores how MillSlicer, Molycop's advanced SAG mill vibration measurement and process optimisation technology, provides real-time insight into charge motion and mill dynamics. By monitoring what is happening inside the mill, operators can better understand the relationship between ore variability and grinding performance, enabling more informed operational decisions by geologists, mining engineers and metallurgists to produce improved process stability.

Practical case studies will be presented to demonstrate how sites have used these insights to achieve measurable operational improvements.

The topic is relevant to metallurgists, mining engineers, and geologists interested in understanding how ore characteristics influence comminution performance and how real-time process intelligence can support more effective mine-to-mill optimisation

Please join us as we all strive to keep the Money Wheel turning.

Speaker/s

Chet Tan

Senior Engineer, Advanced Milling Instrumentation, Molycop
Chet Tan is a Senior Engineer within Molycop's Advanced Milling Instrumentation team, specialising in comminution optimisation and measurement technologies for grinding circuits. He works closely with mining and mineral processing operations globally to improve mill performance through the application of advanced monitoring systems, process analytics, and data-driven optimisation strategies.

His experience includes the implementation and application of MillSlicer technology across a range of commodities and operating environments, helping sites gain a deeper understanding of charge behaviour, improve throughput, enhance operational stability, and maximise asset performance.
