In-Person and Livestream Tech Talk: Bunbury Anthropology – A Geologist's Perspective at the "speed of light"
Join the South West WA Branch in person or online for their September Tech Talk: Bunbury Anthropology – A Geologist's Perspective at the "speed of light".
About this event
Bunbury and Western Australia inherit their place and character from nearly four billion years of :history. Why are they here, how did they get here, and what lies around and beneath?
Hear a brief overview of the State’s and Bunbury's geological background and the geological reason why the city is here.
130 million years ago, as India was separating from the last remnant of East Gondwana, basalt lava erupting from volcanoes flowed along river valleys northward towards the then-existing ocean, and it passed where Bunbury now lies.
With over five decades of experience in geology and decades of geological interpretation for the public, speaker Michael Freeman invites all to explore the geological formation of WA and Bunbury, and invites you to consider this region as your next travel experience (and, in the future, the Nannup WA Geopark in the southern part of the Bunbury Basalt paleoflow complex).
Speaker/s
Mike Freeman
He successfully:
• found a nice gold mine near Kalgoorlie
• worked on modelling of Collie coal
• engaged in regional geological mapping in central Australia with a wealth of geological experiences in Mt Isa and Broken Hill.
He is now keen to tell the public about the wonders of our
World’s geology and enjoys giving public and society lectures in the far SW of WA.
His next goal is to develop a geotrail along Back Beach - Walyup beach on the Bunbury Basalt outcrops. Representative of 220 km valley basalt flows, related to the plate tectonic process of India and Australia splitting as East Gondwana starts breaking apart.
