Truck, hoist or conveyor? Navigating the trade-offs in underground mine design
Explore how mine depth, production requirements, ventilation, energy and life-of-mine economics can influence the choice between truck haulage, shaft hoisting and conveying in underground mine design.
About this event
Selecting a material handling system is a critical underground mine-planning decision, with implications for operational efficiency, capital investment and long-term mine economics.
In this technical webinar, Nik Gresshoff and Chris Faast from ABB will examine the trade-offs between truck haulage, shaft hoisting and conveying. Their discussion will draw on a material haulage trade-off study considering mines at depths of 600m, 900m and 1,400m, based on an assumed production rate of 3 Mtpa.
The speakers will consider how mine depth, production rate, ventilation requirements and energy costs can affect the technical and economic suitability of each option. They will also discuss electrification, grid constraints, evolving regulatory requirements and the importance of maintaining flexibility as operating conditions and technologies change.
