AusIMM announce upcoming site tour for Lithium delegates!
AusIMM is proud to invite the Lithium delegates for 2022 to attend our upcoming and exclusive Tianqi Lithium Tour.
Gain insights into the development of the world's highest grade lithium mineral resource from General Manager Operations, Erik Laurent and tour the facility at Kwinana.
Australia’s first fully-automated lithium hydroxide processing plant is located at the Kwinana Industrial strip, in WA, 20 mins (25km) from the port city of Fremantle and two and a half hours (250km) from the Greenbushes mine, the world’s largest and highest-grade source of hardrock lithium.
The plant is also the first to produce lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM), or battery grade lithium, in commercial quantities. Lithium hydroxide produced at the Kwinana Plant will be containerised and exported from the Port of Fremantle to customers around the globe.
It is a key component in electric vehicle high nickel battery cathode chemistry, delivering higher energy density and longer driving distances between charges. Lithium hydroxide is a lithium-based compound derived from spodumene, a lithium-bearing pegmatite mineral. Spodumene is sourced directly from the Greenbushes mine.

- 9:00am - Arrive at the Crown Perth
- 9:00am - Covid19 RATs testing
- 9:15am - Bus departs Crown to Tianqi Lithium
- 10:00am - Arrive at Tianqi Lithium, Kwinana
- 10:00am - 12:00pm - Presentation and walk through of the facility
- 12:00pm - Depart Tianqi Lithium
- 12:30pm - Arrive back at the Crown Perth where tour concludes

Participants will need to wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants and safety boots. Participant can wear their own high-vis shirts, otherwise Tianqi Lithium can provide a high-vis vest. Tianqi will also provide hard hats, mono-goggles, ear plugs and DAP upon arrival.
Please note tour participant must be registered to attend the Lithium, Battery and Energy Metals Conference.
