Toby Whincup is a recognised global leader in sustainability, investment and geopolitics in the mining and critical minerals sector. He is geologist with nearly 30 years’ experience as a sustainability consultant and has been with global advisory firm ERM for 25 years. He was appointed the Global Director of Critical Minerals in 2023. Toby advises global organisations on investment and reputational protection through identification, mitigation and management of material sustainability risks and liabilities. Primary focus of his expertise is derisking major capital projects at pre-operational phase through developing and implementing robust risk strategies to inform ESIA, stakeholder management, regulatory and financial strategies. Many of these projects have often occurred in remote, logistically challenging areas of developing countries, and have been high profile, and at times, controversial. He has worked across Australia, Asia, Africa, North America and Latin America.
