Site tour to Sibelco Mineral Sands, Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island)
AusIMM is pleased to offer Life of Mine delegates the opportunity to take part in an all inclusive site tour to Sibelco Mine Operations, located on idyllic Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island)
Sand mining has been present on Minjerribah since the 1950s. Sibelco and its predecessors mined and processed Silica and Mineral sands on Minjerribah and exported it around the world until the cessation of operations in 2019.
Sibelco continues to work towards completion of its rehabilitation obligations and surrender of all liabilities on Minjerribah which provides ongoing employment and training for the local community.
Sibelco works closely with all of its stakeholders on Minjerribah specifically QYAC and the Queensland Government, to ensure a timely transition to the post mining land use, whilst leaving a positive legacy for Sibelco on Minjerribah.
Overview:
- Tour the historic sand mining sites on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) which has been in operation since the 1950s
- Visit the rehabilitated Enterprise Mine and Yarraman Mine sites as well as the Kounpee nursery
- Great opportunity to visit a mine site on the doorstep of Brisbane that has been employing leading rehabilitation practices for several decades
Attendee information:
Lunch and light snacks will be provided by Sibelco
Attendees are to meet at Sofitel Brisbane, and will be required to wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt, closed in shoes and a hat.
Sibelco can supply a High viz vest and helmet if required. In addition, we will require that all visitors also complete a 1-page visitor induction before entering site.
