The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) is delighted to host the International Mining Geology Conference 2022 in Brisbane and online March 22-23. This outstanding technical conference will be delivered in a hybrid format with a face-to-face experience mirrored virtually for delegates around the world to attend.

Together with Rio Tinto, AusIMM are delighted to announce will we once again host a Young Professionals program as part of the Mining Geology Conference. The program offers students, graduates, and new professionals to enhance their skills and build industry connections. With a focus on career development, mentoring, real-world skills and meeting industry experts from leading mining organisations, young professionals will have the unique opportunity to kickstart their career at the conference.

Session 1: Geology and Mining

Learn from industry experts; expand your technical knowledge; and understand the skills required to be a better Mine Geologist.

Topics will cover: Mining Cycle Overview, Sampling Theory and Sampling Error and Reconciliation.

Session 2: Career Development

Select intelligence on how to make the most of your career and development.  Learn how to pitch yourself effectively and practice with online or face to face speed networking.

Topics will cover: Career Planning & Development, Personal Elevator Pitch and Speed Networking

Session 3: Geologists – what do you do?

What type of geologist do you want to be? Obtain insights from the people with boots on the ground – a day in the life of mining, exploration and resource geologists. Discuss the future of the workforce and how that might impact you.

Topics will cover: Exploration Geologist, Mine Geologist – Open Cut, Mine Geologist – Underground, Resource Geologist and The Future of the Workforce

Session 4: Mental Health and Lifestyle

Discuss the latest insights on mental health concerns within the mining industry. Hear from geologists on why their lifestyle is their preference – residential, FIFO, office-based roles.
