Obituary: Al Maynard 1946-2025
Allen John Maynard, a distinguished geologist and respected consultant in the field of mineral exploration, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 earlier this year.
Born on June 6, 1946, in Mullumbimby, New South Wales, Allen’s lifelong passion for geology took him across the globe, contributing to the discovery and evaluation of countless mineral resources. A graduate of Curtin University with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Geology, he dedicated over four decades to advancing exploration techniques and resource assessments. As the founder of Al Maynard & Associates, he provided his expertise to mining companies, investors, and exploration projects worldwide.
Allen’s career spanned every facet of geological exploration, from hands-on fieldwork to high-level consultancy. His work took him from the rugged terrains of Western Australia’s Goldfields to remote locations across Africa, Asia, and the Americas. He played a crucial role in numerous mining ventures, guiding projects from initial discovery to stock exchange listings. Al was also a proud member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Australian Institute of Geoscientists.
Al was a mentor and his legacy lives on in the countless projects he influenced and the geologists he inspired.
