Where the world meets mining innovation: GRX25’s global impact
The Global Resources Innovation Expo (GRX25), being held this week in Brisbane, brings together a powerful mix of international mining leaders and government representatives, reinforcing Australia’s position as a global partner in mining innovation, sustainability and capability development.
Hosted by Austmine and AusIMM, GRX25 welcomes senior-level delegations from across Southeast Asia, South Asia, Latin America and North America, creating new pathways for business partnerships, technology exchange and cross-border collaboration.
This year’s event has been particularly significant for Australia’s world-class Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sector, providing a platform to connect with global decision-makers, showcase cutting-edge solutions, and build new commercial and research pathways across key international markets.
Reflecting on the strong international engagement and its role in advancing global collaboration, Austmine CEO Christine Gibbs Stewart said, “GRX25 provides a vital platform for Australia’s METS sector to connect with global partners and showcase the strength of our innovation and technology leadership. It was an honour to welcome the Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources from the Philippines, along with so many senior leaders from across the region.
AusIMM Chief Executive Officer Stephen Durkin said, “GRX25 is a showcase of Australia's unparalleled mining and METS expertise on a global stage. The number of international delegations and organisations attending underscores the world's recognition of our leadership and innovation.
“Through this new platform, we’re thrilled to be lead meaningful exchanges and collaborative discussions with our global partners, paving the way for technological advancements and new ways of working together.”
Major international engagement highlights
The largest delegation is a group from the Philippines, led by the Hon. Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), consisting of over 20 senior representatives from companies including Nickel Asia Corporation, OceanaGold, Apex Mining, FCF Minerals and Genluiching Mining Corp.
Vietnam is also strongly represented, with a 15-person delegation from Vinacomin, the country’s largest publicly-owned mining company. Ashley McAleese, CEO of Masan High-Tech Minerals, is presenting at GRX25 on the country’s critical minerals roadmap.
Delegations from India, Indonesia, PNG, Zambia, Kazakhstan and Canada add further strength to the international presence at GRX25, underscoring the event’s strategic importance as a gateway to global markets.
Facilitating Global Collaboration
To support targeted international engagement, GRX25 features a series of curated initiatives, including:
- Australia–Southeast Asia Mining Innovation Exchange – a high-impact roundtable connecting Australian suppliers with buyers and partners from the region.
- International B2B Meetings, coordinated by Austmine and Austrade, ensuring overseas delegates can identify and connect with Australian companies aligned to their operational needs.
- The standout Global Open Innovation Colab, sponsored by Baker Hughes, which brings together mining innovation hubs, R&D teams and collaboration partners from across the globe.
Global Open Innovation Colab: A Strategic Meeting of Minds
The Colab provided a rare opportunity for global innovation leaders to connect, strategise, and align on shared industry challenges, from decarbonisation and electrification to data-driven operations and the future workforce.
Participating organisations include The Centre of Excellence for Mining Innovation (CEMI, Canada), Expande (Chile), Mining Innovation Hub of Peru, NORCAT, Prospect Innovation, Rio Tinto, BHP’s Think & Act Differently, and the Global Mining Guidelines Group, representing an international ecosystem of mining innovation excellence.
Through dedicated sessions and open dialogue, the Colab will spark new collaboration pathways, inform future-focused strategies, and reinforce the collective ambition to accelerate transformation across the global mining sector.
With participation from more than 20 countries and the active involvement of global innovation hubs, GRX25 highlighted the importance of international connection in driving a more resilient, sustainable and technology-enabled resources sector.
