Rachael Bartels
Senior Managing Director, Accenture
Rachael Bartels is a Senior Managing Director within Accenture’s global Life and Sustainable Materials practices.
She is responsible for managing the global relationship with one of Accenture’s largest Life Sciences clients, where she is helping them to navigate significant change programmes that will fundamentally change their ways of working.
For 15 years previous, she has been managing the global relationship for two of Accenture’s largest diversified mining clients while running the global mining business for Accenture. She has remained Executive Sponsor of some of Accenture’s largest mining clients, guiding the c-suite and Board members as they navigate large scale change. This includes a client where we are supporting a capital programme to build the first scaled fossil fuel free steel plant.
Rachael has spent over 30 years working with C-suite clients to complete major transformations of their businesses. She has spent the majority of her career in the science and resources based industries whether mining, oil, chemicals or life sciences. She is passionate about harnessing new technologies and processes to drive innovation and create sustainable, resilient growth for clients. She has built several digital businesses for Accenture and her clients over the course of her career. A futurist, she has published a number of articles on digital disruption of industry as well as the impact of the circular economy and sustainability. She often participates in workshops to create new client strategies.
She leverages the experience of previous roles within Accenture, including Accenture’s global management committee where she was responsible for setting the strategy and implementing a new operating model for the Customer, Finance, Supply Chain and Operations business during the Covid pandemic. She has held multiple P&L roles as account lead, running the UKI materials science business as well as the global Resources manufacturing business. She has also held a number of strategy roles, such as Industry lead for Chemicals, Mining and Metals and on Accenture’s Sustainability Council. She chaired Accenture’s global mining council – a forum for mining C-suite to discuss the risks and opportunities facing the industry.
She is heavily involved in talent development within Accenture, particularly in client relationship management. She is also a sponsor of Accenture’s Pride programme and the European Women’s network.
Rachael has a degree in Politics and Economics from Smith College, MA and joined Accenture in 1988. Outside of work and family, sports and biodynamic gardening keep her busy. She is trustee emerita of Smith College. She and her partner mainly live outside of London with their two sons and two dogs.
Rachael is a facilitator at the Critical Minerals Forum during Australian Mining Week 2025.
