Sid Marris

Deputy Chief Executive, Minerals Council Australia 

Sid Marris has had an engaging career that has covered journalism, business and politics.

He worked in various reporting and management positions at The Australian newspaper from 1991 until 2008, in Sydney and Melbourne before returning for the newspaper to Canberra.

From 2008 he was at the Minerals Council of Australia initially in corporate affairs and industry policy and then covering energy, environment, climate change and communities policy.

In February 2017 he joined the Office of Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull as senior adviser for energy, resources, climate change, heavy industry and Northern Australia.

Late in 2018, he returned to the Minerals Council, working on policy issues such as the future workforce and innovation, state and Territory relationships, as well as advising on strategy. In 2021, he was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

He serves on the board the Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance – a tripartite body identifying skills gaps and facilitating stronger collaboration between industry and training providers.

Sid has an Executive Master of Business Administration from QUT and an honours degree in Arts from Macquarie University.

Sid is a facilitator at the Critical Minerals Forum during Australian Mining Week 2025.
