PD Hours

The AusIMM Darwin Branch warmly invites you to their March technical talk: Remediation of Rum Jungle Mine.

About this event

Ian Harvey from the NT Mines Department, will provide an update on the progress of rehabilitating the former Rum Jungle uranium mine site, located 105 km south of Darwin. Mining activities at the site between 1954 and 1971 resulted in significant environmental impacts, primarily due to acid and metalliferous drainage (AMD), which affected the East Branch of the Finniss River.

The Rehabilitation Plan was approved under the NT Environment Protection Act 219 and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 in 2023 and is now being implemented by the NT Government. Ian will also discuss the contaminated soil and water management strategy component of the rehabilitation.

Please join us for an informative session followed by a Q&A and networking opportunity.
