Speaker/s

Anne English

AAusIMM
Principal, Tablelands Law
Anne has been practising law for 45 years. She lives on a small farm with her horses, goats and cattle with a view of beautiful Lake Tinaroo and owns and manages a general legal practice in Atherton on the wonderful Atherton Tablelands. As the principal of the law firm Atherton Tablelands Law and before that of Bottoms English Lawyers in Cairns, Anne’s work encompasses general legal assistance and includes areas of particular interest such as working with First Nations people and miners in the native title and cultural heritage areas for over 35 years. This has given her an insight into how indigenous law and custom permeates the way aboriginal people do business when dealing with land matters. It has also given her an appreciation of the complex regulatory environment for mining companies operating in Queensland. Anne has been involved in developing native title and cultural heritage agreements for aboriginal communities and miners and related industries for projects at Cape Flattery Silica, Aurukun, Weipa, Surat Basin Rail, Mt Isa and in the Cairns region to name a few. Anne is a graduate of the Australia Institute of Company Directors and she continues to provide legal advice to both aboriginal groups and miners involved in projects in Cape York and elsewhere as well as being a member of Agforce and involved in Agforce taskforces that are convened from time to time to respond to regulatory proposals that will adversely impact on farming operations in the Great Barrier Reef region. She has also been a long- time maritime lawyer having serviced the commercial fishing and general marine sector for a similar period and is a member of the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand.

Kate Grundy

Environmental Consultant, Care of our Environment (COOE)
Kate is an Environmental Consultant, specialising in ecology, environmental assessment and approvals. Her family owned and operated a pastoral station located within the Coorong in South Australia. Growing up in this hotspot of marine and freshwater biodiversity, Kate found a natural interest in birds and aquatic wildlife from an early age.
After moving to Cairns, Kate worked in ecotourism on the Great Barrier Reef and in hospitality. She then obtained a degree in Environmental Science majoring in Conservation Ecology.
Kate has worked as an ecologist since 2010, conducting fauna and flora assessments in a very wide range of habitats, from the desert in South Australia to the rainforest of Queensland's Wet Tropics.
