Professor Anna Giacomini is a leading engineering researcher specialising in rock mechanics and rockfall hazard mitigation. Based at the University of Newcastle, she is the Director of the Research Centre of Geotechnical Science in Engineering. Her work integrates field investigations, large-scale experimental testing, and advanced numerical modelling to improve the understanding and management of rockfall risk in both natural and engineered environments.

Professor Giacomini collaborates widely with industry and government and has been recognised internationally for her contributions to geotechnical risk management.
