Join the Hunter Region Branch for their 12th Annual Jameson Distinguished Lecture: Effect of water quality in flotation performance.

About this event

The Annual Jameson Distinguished Lecture, in honour of Emeritus Professor Graeme Jameson is presented by the Hunter Region Branch to highlight innovations in mineral processing.

Water quality plays a critical role in flotation performance, influencing both process chemistry and the efficiency of mineral and coal separation. This presentation will examine how variations in water composition affect reagent behaviour, froth stability, and overall recovery. A particular focus will be on the impact of recycled water, which often deteriorates in quality due to the accumulation of inorganic and organic species.

The presentation will also highlight practical implications for water management and outline strategies to mitigate adverse effects and optimise flotation performance under varying water quality conditions.

Program
6.00pm - 6.30pm: Arrival and networking
6.30pm - 7.30pm: Presentation
7.30pm - 8.30pm: Post event networking

Speaker/s

Seher Ata

MAusIMM
Associate Professor, School of Minerals and Energy, UNSW
Seher Ata is a Professor in the School of Minerals and Energy at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, and leads the Mineral Processing Research Group. She previously held an academic position at the University of Newcastle. Her research spans both fundamental and applied aspects of mineral processing, with a particular focus on froth flotation and the integration of renewable energy into mineral processing systems. She has led and contributed to numerous projects involving the flotation of low-grade complex ores, froth phase behaviour in industrial flotation cells, tailings reprocessing, and the influence of water chemistry on processing plant performance. Professor Ata is a co-editor of Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy and serves on the editorial boards of several international journals.
