November tech talk: Real-Time estimation of SAG mill charge characteristics for process optimisation
Join the Kalgoorlie Branch for their November tech talk: Real-Time estimation of SAG mill charge characteristics for process optimisation with Paul Toor, Comminution Consultant at Toornado Metallurgy.
About this event
This presentation is based on a paper of the same name co-authored with Dr Walter Valery (Hatch), Mrs. Kristy Duffy (Hatch) and Dr Steve Morrell (SMC Testing), whose mill power draw model (Morrell C-model) is used as the basis of analysis in the work.
The presentation aims to empower metallurgists to leverage available process and plant data and couple it with the Morrell C-model to gain valuable real-time insights into SAG charge characteristics for process optimisation.
Three approaches, supported by case studies are shared, that enable metallurgists to:
- Infer mill filling and ball charge with higher confidence
- Analyse large-scale and real-time process data
- Detect and troubleshoot mill performance issues early
With advancements such as mill-mounted sensors, VBA integration, and high-resolution laser scanning, Paul demonstrates how real-time charge estimation can improve plant operations.
This presentation by Paul Toor, Comminution Consultant at Toornado Metallurgy will be valuable for plant metallurgists, process engineers, and mining professionals looking to improve comminution efficiency and operational decision-making.
