About this event

We all know someone with a dreadful history of bad relationships. Undaunted by serial disappointment, they make the same mistakes over and over. We can see it happening but seem powerless to influence their choices.

So it is in the minerals industry for scaling up new technologies and processes.  Seduced by early promise, our companies regularly regret full-scale commitment. Yet, only briefly discouraged, they are soon seduced again.

We consider the litany of failed technologies and processes in the minerals industry. Unlike our acquaintance, in this case, there is something we can do about it. Indeed, that is our job.

What are the considerations for successful minerals technology scale up? From the pools of promise, what features will distinguish the pretenders from the contenders?

Most importantly, how do we communicate scale-up risks and their amelioration constructively to non-engineers, to move the focus from “what sounds good” to “what will work”?
