Webinar: Thermodynamic Modelling of Hydrometallurgical Processes – Pressure Oxidation Optimisation and Design

Join the Metallurgical Society online for their Webinar: Thermodynamic Modelling of Hydrometallurgical Processes – Pressure Oxidation Optimisation and Design.

About this event

Autoclave leaching, including POX (pressure oxidation), is a powerful alternative for copper extraction, but determining the right operating conditions to achieve selective copper recovery can be challenging - especially when working with refractory minerals like chalcopyrite. Key questions often include: What is the optimal ratio of sulfuric acid to oxygen? What minimum O₂ is required to drive dissolution?

In this webinar, Diana Miller and Jordan Pearce will demonstrate how thermodynamics can be used as a predictive framework to guide POX/autoclave operating strategies, including estimating acid and oxygen demand and evaluating critical solution properties such as pH, density, and oxidation-reduction potential (ORP). Using a representative system at 150°C and 40 atm, they will walk through how to set up an autoclave calculation and interpret results using the Mixed-Solvent-Electrolyte (MSE) model as the thermodynamic framework, supporting better process design, troubleshooting, and optimisation.
