PD Hours

Join the Mining Society for their May webinar: Mine planning considerations for underground electric mines.

About this event

This webinar will aim to illustrate the practical implications and the main concepts on which it is necessary to focus in designing an electrified mine at the design and planning stage.

Electric underground mines have the potential to decrease diesel use and maintenance, reduce ventilation requirements and significantly lower mine operating costs. In addition, they can significantly improve worker health and safety, reducing exposure to diesel particulate matter, heat, vibration and noise. But are they an option for all underground mines?

This webinar will discuss topics such as:

  • Why consider an electric underground mine?
  • The potential benefits of an underground electric mine
  • The current technical limitations of an underground electric mine
  • Diesel vs electric – the main differences to consider when planning your mine

Speaker Sarah de Vries has specialised in mine electrification for the last 8 years.  She worked for IGO on the Cosmos Underground Electrification Study and has a thorough understanding of the available electric technology and its practical implications.

Webinar time: 2.00pm - 3.00pm AEST
