Join the North Queensland Branch for their Charters Towers Field Trip; Zara Clark Museum visit and local presentations.

About this event

You're invited to join us for a special visit to the Zara Clark Museum, where you'll explore the rich history of Charters Towers, including the restored 1935 glass model showcasing the region's gold lodes and underground mining workings.

Following the museum tour, there will be an afternoon at the Civic Club which will include presentations on local projects including Sunshine Metals Liontown gold and base metals project; Ballymore Resources Dittmer mine and Charters Towers region projects; InterGroup Mining’s Lolworth kaolin and gold project; ECR Minerals gold and critical minerals near Pentland; Australian Drilling Industry Association and Eagle Drilling NQ; and an overview of the history of gold mining in Charters Towers.

Registrants are invited to attend an optional dinner at the Rix Hotel - registrants to pay for own dinner.

Matt Price

Exploration Manager, Sunshine Metals Ltd
Matt has over 15 years experience in mineral exploration and holds a Master’s degree in Geosciences from Royal Holloway, University of London. Matt has extensive experience within Queensland having explored the Mt Isa and Charters Towers provinces for copper, gold, lead-zinc, uranium and rare earth elements. He has also led a porphyry copper exploration team in northern Chile. Matt has been overseeing exploration at Sunshine since the company listed in December 2020.

Sally Forgan

General Manager, Eagle Drilling NQ Pty Ltd
During her 15 years with Charters Towers based exploration drilling contractor Eagle Drilling NQ Pty Ltd, Sally has been General Manager for the past seven years and previously Business Manager. She is also a Board Member of the Australian Drilling Industry Association (ADIA,) and a Director of Aquila Air Services, a commercial aviation company based in Charters Towers. Her twenty year involvement with the mining industry also includes five years at Pajingo gold mine with Pitram Mining and Administration, Newmont, and NQM.

Ross Garling

Chief Operating Officer & SSE, InterGroup Mining Ltd
Ross has over 50 years mining engineering experience as one of Australia’s mining industry veterans. He has a decorated leadership history in AusIMM including with Sydney and North Queensland Branches, and runs his own mining consultancy, Tradd Pty Ltd, which has advised numerous mining companies on major mining transactions.

Jim Morrison

Consultant Geologist, Map to Mine Pty Ltd
Commencing work at Nobles Nob gold mine in Tennant Creek in 1966, Jim moved to WA at the start of the nickel boom and worked on exploration and development of the Nepean, Mt Keith, Widgiemooltha, and Forrestania nickel deposits; other exploration in WA and the NT; then the assessment of Western Australian mineral resources for the GSWA. Moving to Queensland in 1985, he worked on projects in NSW and Vic, then the development of Mt Leyshon gold mine, followed by exploration at Pajingo and other projects in Qld. From 2000 he led Citigold’s geological evaluation of the Charters Towers goldfield for a decade, including the development of the Warrior East gold mine. Subsequently he worked on various mines and exploration projects in northern and NW Queensland. He is a past Chair and Secretary of the AusIMM North Queensland Branch, and former member of the EGRU Board.

Adam Jones

Technical Director & Chief Geologist, ECR Minerals plc
Adam has been Technical Director and Chief Geologist for ECR Minerals PLC for the past five years. He has been involved in gold exploration and production for 15 years mainly in exploring and underground mining of narrow vein orebodies. Adam holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Ballarat University and First Class Honours from Adelaide University, completing his thesis on the Twin Hills Epithermal Au deposit. He was a Mine Geologist at Pajingo from 2011 to 2013 and Project Geologist for Dart Mining on porphyry Cu-Mo in NE Victoria. A member of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) he has worked as an independent consulting geologist since 2015. His clients have included the A1 Mine Kaiser Reef (Narrow high grade Gold), Dart Mining (Gold, Moly, Lithium Pegmatites), and Nagambie Resources (Antimony, Gold) in Victoria. He resides in Victoria within easy reach of ECR’s Bailieston and Creswick gold projects.

Edward Fry

Exploration Manager, Ballymore Resources Ltd
Edward is Exploration Manager for Ballymore Resources, an Honours graduate of the University of Queensland, is a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and a member of the Geological Society of Australia . He has worked in the mineral exploration industry for over 15 years and has extensive experience in planning, budgeting, and implementing precious, base metal, and critical mineral exploration programs. Edward has managed and completed exploration activities in China, Papua New Guinea, Greece, Queensland, and Western Australia for a number of different companies, including, Golden Tiger Ltd, Artemis Resources Ltd, MIL resources Ltd, Convergent Minerals Ltd, Rockfire Resources plc, and Renegade Exploration Ltd.
