Peter Chapman

Technical Director and Director, Tailing Strategy and Growth
Peter is a Technical Director at WSP, specialising in mine waste management. Based in Perth, Australia, he has over 20 years of experience in tailings management, including design, independent reviews, and audits. He has served on multiple Independent Tailings Review Boards (ITRBs) and held Engineer of Record roles. His current focus is on quantitative risk assessments to support risk mitigation and safe closure of tailings storage facilities.
Angelica Andrade
MPhil Candidate, University of Queensland
Angelica Andrade is an MPhil candidate at the University of Queensland's Center for Social Responsibility in Mining (CSRM). Originally from Brumadinho, Brazil, she became an advocate for justice, change, and safety in the mining sector following the 2019 tailings dam failure that claimed 272 lives, including her sister. Angelica has spoken at global events, including the UN-supported PRI in Person and the Global Launch Event of the New Industry Standard on Tailings Management. Her research focuses on tailings failures and community consultation, aiming to prevent future disasters.
Michelle Pontre
Senior Associate - Communities and Social Performance, WSP
Michelle is a Senior Associate at WSP, specialises in social performance, and business and human rights. Michelle has held roles at the International Council for Mining and Metals (ICMM) and Rio Tinto. At ICMM, she led ESG Reporting and Skills Initiative projects, drawing on 14 years of experience in community and social performance across global corporate and asset-based roles.
