Join the Social and Environment Society for their June webinar: Opportunities and challenges in achieving high value post mining land use.

About this event

This webinar will provide an outline of current challenges and efforts towards improving value-adding use of post mining land, both for communities and the environment.

Topics covered will include:

  • Defining ‘Higher value post mining land use’ including some best practice examples
  • Current state of play in Australia, and lessons from other jurisdictions
  • Development update: Multicriteria business case toolkit for PMLU assessment and stakeholder engagement (project by enviroMETS Qld with CRC TiME)

From enviroMETS Qld Allan Morton (Executive Director) and Jenny Agnew (Non-Executive director) will present. This not for profit organisation is working hard to support the mission of enabling transformative post mining land use, in Qld as a model for other jurisdictions in Australia as well. Bryan Maybee from CRC TiME will also present. Bryan is supporting the multicriteria tool project and brings decision-making expertise from mine planning and finance to its development.

Jenny Agnew

Chair, Social and Environment Society Committee; Non-Executive Director, enviroMETS; Business Sustainability Manager, Sedgman
With 23 years in the resources industry at Sedgman, Jenny leverages her engineering and strategic planning experience to link people and ideas across disciplines both at a company and industry level. She loves getting the most out of all the expertise in a room to develop effective strategies to deliver the mission of the teams she works with. Alongside leading the ESG approach and strategic planning at Sedgman, she am contributing to a more sustainable resources industry through organisations such as enviroMETS QLD (NED), AusIMM’s S&E Committee (Chair) & Decarbonisation Accelerated (Leaders Group).

Jenny holds degrees in Chemical Engineering and has expertise in health, safety, quality and environmental management systems, as well as strategic and operational risk management.

Allan Morton

Executive Director, enviroMETS
Allan is an experienced active business advisor, director and past ASX listed company board chairman. He’s an engineer, former senior corporate manager and executive in industrial and resource business sectors.

His innovative entrepreneurial thinking developed and commercialized new technology, processes and products. He founded and grew a number of successful companies. He has held advisory positions in private companies, non-profit and publicly listed organizations in Australia and NZ.

He was appointed by METS Ignited, with the support of the Queensland Government to lead the transformation and incorporation of enviroMETS Qld. With this achieved he leads an expanding organisation that is firmly focused on its mission to find new innovative and sustainable value in mining impacted land and communities for its current, and future custodians.

Bryan Maybee

Associate Professor, Minerals and Energy Economics - Western Australian School of Mines; Program Lead, Risk, Evaluation and Planning, CRC for Transformations in Mining Economies
Bryan is an accomplished academic and industry expert in Minerals and Energy Economics. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor at Curtin University’s Western Australian School of Mines, and as the Program Lead for Risk, Evaluation, and Planning at the CRC for Transformations in Mining Economies. He has worked with governments and major mining companies globally to develop tools and methodologies that improve mine planning and strategic decision-making processes. As a consultant to the World Bank, he contributes to the development of mining tax administration frameworks and has co-authored influential publications on transfer pricing and tax administration in the mining industry. He is a member of the AusIMM and sits on the MRIWA College of Experts. Bryan's research continues to focus on improving mine planning and valuation processes, emphasizing the inclusion of ESG factors to facilitate the transition of mined land and assets to economically prosperous post-mining uses.
