In Person and Livestream Masterclass: Expert Witness Skills

4
PD Hours

Join the South West WA Branch for their Masterclass on Expert Witness Skills, aimed at those called or intending to be called as an expert witness.

About this event

Litigation in the Resource Industry can contain complex matters beyond the comprehension of the legal profession; therefore, it is imperative that the Courts rely on expertise from expert sources.

As a resource professional, it is possible that you could be called upon by the Courts to provide your expertise as an expert witness.

The role of expert witness is a paid assignment by one of the parties to the dispute; however, the Court demands independence and bipartisan delivery of the evidence given.

The experience of being an expert witness can be rewarding; however, can be harrowing for those who are not adequately prepared. One must be prepared to give evidence and be cross-examined which can be confrontational.

This masterclass will include both theory and role playing conducted by Professor Colin Roberts – Resource Professional & International Arbitrator and Lawyer.

The focus will be on what to expect and to inform the expert witness of the rules and laws that govern the role as an expert witness and would appeal to National Resource Companies, Government & Regulatory Officials, Resource Managers, Bankers, Geologists, Engineers, Lawyers, Accountants, Exploration Personnel and Academics.
