Join the Sydney Branch for their October tech talk: Argus Media Briefing: Global Metals & Coal Market Trends.

About this event

Leading commodity and energy market intelligence agency Argus will bring together its coal and metals markets experts from Singapore with its local team in Sydney to share important insights into metals and coal markets locally, regionally and globally.

Argus delivers comprehensive market intelligence and independent price assessments across the global metals industry covering steel, raw materials, alloys, base and specialty metals, battery materials, rare earths, scrap, and pipe and tube. This includes coking coal, where our pricing is increasingly used in physical contracts fob Australia, and changing market flows is seeing increased demand for delivered India and China prices.

Argus/McCloskey’s API5 (5,500kcal/kg NAR) and API6 (6,000kcal/kg NAR) both fob Newcastle are widely referenced with API5 used in physical contracts by key coal mining firms. We also produce Indonesian, South African, Latin American and Russian coal export prices, which can compete with Australian coal.

Argus produces biomass price benchmarks in Asia that are used in sales mostly into Korea and Japan for electricity generation, steelmaking and feedstock for some biofuels, which complements our broad biofuels coverage. Australia-Pacific is an emerging biomass market in Asia with several major power producers seeking consultation for the feasibility of biomass-fired power to meet their long-term renewable energy goals.

In this series of short presentations, senior Argus market staff will present on metals and coal markets, as well as share views on supply and demand outlook. They want to stimulate a conversation about what their growing team can do in Australia to support markets and businesses in the region.

Argus is the leading independent provider of market intelligence to the global energy and commodity markets. We offer essential price assessments, news, analytics, consulting services, data science tools and industry conferences to illuminate complex and opaque commodity markets.
