From Student to Mining Professional: What University doesn’t teach you about working underground | AusIMM
Real-world lessons, challenges and insights for early-career underground mining engineers.
About this event
Transitioning from university into the mining industry can be challenging, especially in underground environments, where expectations are high and real-world complexity quickly replaces theory.
In this free live webinar, industry professionals from Resolve Mining Solutions, in collaboration with AusIMM, will share honest, experience-led insights on what it really takes to move from student to confident mining professional.
Through personal stories and practical reflections, the speakers will discuss what they wish they had known at university, common early-career challenges and how new graduates can better prepare for the realities of underground mining — including planning, safety, communication and working on site. The session will also touch on experiences of entering the Australian mining industry from overseas.
The webinar will conclude with a short overview of the Associate Certificate: Underground Mining – Planning, Safety & Design, designed to help early-career engineers build confidence, capability and practical skills for underground roles.
