Gold Processing For Non-Metallurgists Course (delivered online)
This (1-day equivalent) course will introduce attendees to the metallurgical steps involved in gold processing and the economic and technical factors that need to be considered when designing and operating a gold processing plant.
Topics covered will include:
* Background to Gold Processing (including history of the Gold Group and gold processing)
* Crushing & Grinding - liberation, the critical first steps
* Recovering Gold by Gravity - the simplest, cheapest and oldest option
* Flotation & Refractory Gold Treatment Options - processing difficult ores
* Leaching Gold with Cyanide - the chemistry and application of cyanidation
* Recovering Gold from Solution - Merrill-Crowe and Carbon in Pulp
* Elution & Electrowinning - gold room processing
* Smelting & Refining Gold - making the final product
* Disposal of Gold Mine Tailings - what happens to the cyanide in tails
Who Should Attend:
The workshop is designed to provide non-metallurgists with an introduction to the modern approach to gold processing/extraction. Participants will obtain an understanding of the critical steps in typical flowsheets, including the technical and economic drivers that determine plant design. Geologists, mining engineers, environmental scientists, finance, purchasing and human resources staff will find this course useful and interesting.
