Celebrating Katie McKinnon from Hancock Iron Ore
Katie McKinnon’s mining career spans 15 years and multiple continents, beginning in mobile plant maintenance before evolving into operational leadership roles. After gaining early experience across Western Australia and Queensland, Katie seized the opportunity to work in Mongolia’s vast Gobi Desert, an experience that shaped her adventurous and adaptable approach to leadership.
Her contributions at Roy Hill paved the way to her 2025 promotion to General Manager Contract Mining at Hancock Iron Ore, where she now oversees three operational sites delivering 10Mtpa through the Utah Point export pathway. Her career reflects the breadth of opportunity the mining industry offers and the impact of embracing new challenges.
AusIMM proudly showcases Katie and other remarkable women from across the mining sector as part of our International Women's Day Event Series campaign.
