Celebrating Soheil Tahmasbi from Ausenco
Soheil Tahmasbi from Ausenco is a senior project engineer with a strong multidisciplinary background spanning engineering, research, and project delivery across the oil and gas, mining, and infrastructure sectors.
She began her career as a mechanical engineer in the Middle East before being awarded a Business and Industry Scholarship in 2016 to undertake a PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Newcastle. Following the completion of her PhD in 2020, Soheil worked as a research associate at the Priority Research Centre for Geotechnical Science and Engineering (CGSE), where she contributed to advanced research on buried pipeline design and mine-site safety berm optimisation. She subsequently transitioned into industry roles, gaining experience as a design engineer in mining and completing a Diploma of Project Management.
Soheil has since delivered a range of mining and construction projects in project engineering roles at Monadelphous and currently works as a Senior Project Engineer at Ausenco on major mining projects.
In parallel with her technical career, Soheil is a committed advocate for diversity and inclusion in engineering. She is an active leader within Engineers Australia’s Newcastle Division, serving as a Division Committee member, Chair of Women in Engineering, and a member of the Migrant Engineers Sub-Committee. Passionate about equity and representation in STEM, she is dedicated to inspiring and supporting women from diverse backgrounds to pursue engineering careers and to fostering more inclusive workplaces.
AusIMM proudly showcases Soheil and other remarkable women from across the mining sector as part of our International Women's Day Event Series campaign.
