Title: Onslow Iron: Unlocking a stranded Pilbara asset
Synopsis:
The API West Pilbara deposit set was often called “the Pilbara’s sleeping giant” and formed in 2005 through a consolidation of tenure and an associated joint venture between Aquila and AMCI. This culminated in a joint Resource base of 2.23 Bt1 in 2013 and subsequently expanded further thereafter.
Gavin’s presentation Onslow Iron: Unlocking a stranded Pilbara asset, will discuss some of the historical challenges of bringing the West Pilbara Iron Ore Project, now the Onslow Iron Project, into production and MinRes’ path to navigating historical impediments.
From first commercial entry into the project in March 2021 to first ore shipped in May 2024, the 38-month journey included many novel supply chain solutions that have formed a key part of MinRes’ external communications to date. Similarly, however, there has been, and will continue to be, significant development of a unique mine operating approach, connecting the expansive network of fluvial and bedded deposits, achieving capital efficiency, grade stability and a pathway to a long-term export rate above 35Mtpa. This will form the focus of the presentation.
