Matthew Gill
Crisis Leadership Advisor, Left of Boom
Matt is a mining engineer with 40 years' experience. He has a strong technical, operational and corporate background, having worked as an underground miner, mine planning engineer, supervisor, department head, general manager, COO, CEO and managing director, in Australia, Papua New Guinea, India, Ghana and Bolivia.
He holds four First Class Metalliferous Mine Manager’s Certificates of Competency (Tasmania, WA, PNG and NSW), and has been instrumental in the development of five mines (Porgera, Beaconsfield, Ballarat, Morning Star and Endeavor). He is a three-time winner of the Australian Mine Manager of the Year Award and has received the AusIMM Leadership Award.
Previously MD & CEO for White Rock Minerals for 7 years (with projects in NSW, Alaska and Victoria), he has also been Group Chief Operating Officer of LionGold Corp, and has also worked for Renison Goldfields, Placer Pacific, WMC and Rio Tinto.
Matt's strengths include broad mine operational, technical, project management, mine management and corporate experiences. He possesses strong leadership skills and engaging and personal communication skills, and who can apply complex thinking and analytical abilities to business strategy, risk management and business plan implementation.
He has successfully represented his companies’ mining interests and conducted business in five countries (Australia, PNG, India, Ghana and Bolivia), and has achieved this in both large blue chip companies (RGC, WMC and Rio Tinto) as well as small to medium enterprises. This has included duties as a Managing Director, non-executive director and as CEO of ASX listed companies, with the attendant corporate governance, ASX Listing and reporting requirements, stakeholder engagement and capital raising needs.
