Principal Mining Engineer - Underground, Rio Tinto

Alex is a mining engineer with extensive experience across site-based operations and global consulting roles. His expertise spans underground and open pit mining, with a strong focus on geotechnical engineering, rock mechanics and mining strategy, particularly in caving and deep, highly seismic mining environments. Alex holds a PhD from The University of Queensland, focused on ore recovery and sublevel cave mining performance, and is a FAusIMM Chartered Professional and a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland.

Alex has been an active AusIMM member and contributor to the profession, serving on advisory committees including the Underground Operators Conference. He has also contributed to industry knowledge through technical papers and presentations on geotechnical engineering, mine design and operational performance in underground mining.
