Resources Education Collaboration Summit

Resources Education Collaboration Summit

During 2019 in partnership with the Victorian Government’s Department of Jobs Precents and Regions, AusIMM held the inaugural Resources Education Collaboration Summit.

The Summit brought together key leaders from industry, academia and government for a one-day workshop to begin the conversation around how our industry can best collaborate to ensure we have the skills our sector needs for the future.

The key areas of discussion involved the role of industry in collaborating to obtain a better forecast of needs, the role of academia in sharing skills gaps and best practice in attracting students to courses relevant to the needs of the industry into the future, and the role of government in facilitating the process of collaboration. Participants actively engaged in workshop sessions and had lively and informative conversations around plans, strategies, and next steps in line with AusIMM’s Advocacy Framework and Priorities.

The outcomes from the Summit discussions were collated into a detailed report which was published after the Summit. It presented a call to action for industry, academia and government to work together going forward, ensuring that our important industry continues to go from strength to strength, attracting young people and retaining the important skills for the future.

AusIMM has since been working on the outcomes of this report and will hold a follow up Summit in 2021, to further progress initiatives for the industry when it comes to the future workforce, skills and education.
