Hyperspectral Mineralogy Across the Resources Value Chain – Advances, Challenges and Novel Applications

1
PD Hours
Hyperspectral mineralogy is a field in which for the last 50 years, Australia has been a world leader in developing novel technologies and applications for the resources industry, however to many, it remains a black box method whose applications are not well understood.

About this event

This webinar will provide a brief introduction to hyperspectral mineralogy and explore the role that it can play across the resources value chain as a cost-effective sensing method using real-world examples. It will also provide an overview of recent advances in spectral instrumentation and data processing and highlight CSIRO’s work on the integration of hyperspectral data with other geoscience datasets, and on improving our understanding of new regions of the infra-red spectrum. Participants will gain an understanding of the current state of the art in hyperspectral mineralogy, some of the challenges and limitations associated with its application, and the opportunities that exist across the resources value chain.

Speaker/s

Dr. Jessica Stromberg

Research Scientist, CSIRO Mineral Resources
Dr. Jessica Stromberg is a Research Scientist at CSIRO in the Discovery Program of the Mineral Resources Business Unit. With a background in ore deposit geochemistry and hyperspectral mineralogy, Jessica works at the interface of research and the minerals industry, in multi-disciplinary teams to develop new technologies, workflows and exploration tools to help address key industry challenges. She completed her PhD at the University of Western Ontario in Canada where she worked throughout Canada’s Superior Province on Archean orogenic gold systems and gained industry experience as an underground production geologist. Jessica is a strong believer in the importance of increasing diversity and the representation of untapped populations in the geosciences and she is actively involved in the CSIRO Mineral Resources D&I Committee and the Pride@CSIRO Werkgroup, is on the national committee for QueersInScience, and is the ECMR member of the AAS National Committee for the Earth Sciences.
