JORC Seminar
Join our Hunter Region Branch for their JORC Seminar.
About this event
This event by the Hunter Region Branch will provide information on how Chartered Professionals (CPs) generate reports that estimate resources and reserves as defined by the JORC Code and what the key considerations are for these estimates from a CP's perspective.
This is an informative topic relevant for CPs (or those who wish to become CPs in the future) who estimate resources and reserves as defined by the JORC Code, as it will enhance their skills as practioners and assist with avoiding errors with estimation and increasing accuracy of estimates.

Speaker/s
Steve Hunt
On joining Rio Tinto’s technical group in 2003, he consulted across multiple Rio Tinto operations in mine geology, ore control, reconciliation, resource evaluation and Ore Reserves compliance. Steve gained experience across all Rio Tinto commodity groups including Iron, Coal, Copper, Uranium, Lithium, Borates, Bauxite, Diamonds, Ti Sands, etc. This work included Technical assessments, stage gate project reviews, discipline leadership mentoring and support.
Prior to joining AMC in March 2021, Steve was a group General Manager in Rio Tinto’s Technology division, with responsibility for global Resources and Reserves oversight and reporting. Steve also led the group Orebody Knowledge programs.
His current role is Executive Lead Technical for AMC consultants, based in Melbourne. This role co-ordinates technical consulting discipline streams across engineering and the geosciences for the global AMC community.

Supplementing these capabilities are core mining engineering disciplines including expertise in a wide range of areas such as life of mine planning, optimisation of mining operations, mining options studies, fleet estimation and design and scheduling. He remains a proficient user in a number of mine planning software packages including MineScape, Minex, Talpac and the RPM consulting tools suite of software which includes mine scheduling, fleet selection and economic model modules.
He has strong project financial evaluation skills and the ability to develop project financial models including capital and operating costs, discounted cash flows and project valuations. Doug has achieved a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance from Kaplan which compliments his strong technical skillset. Doug has been a Competent Person since 2010 and has worked on a range of Reserves projects both within Australia and internationally and has also prepared Competent Person’s reporting for the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
Cheryl Holz
Cheryl has travelled internationally to South America to complete JORC Resource and Reserve Audits in a complex multi seam deposit. She has extensive Minex experience in geological modelling of complex deposits and has been responsible for resource risk assessment, exploration planning and justification, JORC Resource reporting, short-term coal quality scheduling and incorporation of in-pit structural mapping into geological models in an operational mine.
Cheryl has developed extensive experience in interpreting complex coal-bearing deposits and generating 3D models which enhances her ability to complete detailed audits. She has strength in data management and analysis (coal quality information) for resource evaluation. She has also developed exceptional client and stakeholders skills and her mature approach engages a diverse range of clients.
These skills have seen her achieve operational values and business objectives.

Darren has completed over 40 due diligence studies and contributed to a number of JORC reserves reports.
Luis Filardi Caneiro
He is highly-experienced in leading engineering teams and projects in many countries and industries within oil and gas, steel, EPCs, shipyards, finance, renewables (wind, hydro, cogeneration, waste to energy, fuel switch from coal to biomass), maritime, manufacturing, agricultural technology and mining supply chains.
Since his early career Luis has had extensive exposure to C-suite executives and governmental agencies. He has participated in several congresses on the development of regulatory frameworks becoming a thought leader among chambers, embassies, governments and industry through international speaking engagements.
