Webinar: Geodynamics and Scale: Mineral Systems in Context

PD Hours
Join Geosciene Society online to discuss Geodynamics and Scale: Mineral Systems in Context, presented by Graham Begg.

About this event

Our understanding of the context for ore deposit formation has been transformed in the last 20 years by the emergence of new technologies. This has resulted in an emergent ability to map the lithosphere in four dimensions, and to couple this with an understanding of changes in associated geodynamic conditions. Deposits are formed by Mineral Systems that generally operate at whole-lithosphere-scale. We can now identify a series of syndromes that create conditions fertile for productive Mineral Systems, as well as typical triggers for resultant ore-formation. The challenge for explorers is to identify the signals of these syndromes in the available data. In this talk I will cover global- to regional- scale factors associated with the generation of various deposit styles, including Ni-Cu-PGE sulphide, orogenic gold, and porphyry Cu.

Graham Begg

Graham Begg has over 30-years of experience in the mining and minerals exploration sector, and since 2002 he has spearheaded collaborative research aimed at systematic multi-disciplinary mapping of the architecture and geodynamic evolution of the continental lithospheric mantle and crust. The outputs contribute towards the commercial Global Lithospheric Architecture Mapping (GLAM) product, aimed at facilitating a breakthrough in greenfields exploration discovery.
