Join the Metallurgical Society for their Webinar: Basic Facts about Mineral Magnetism with a focus on Iron Ore Minerals

About this event

A knowledge of mineral magnetic properties is a useful tool for testing and separating ores that are known to contain minerals amenable to magnetic separation.

This webinar covers the fundamentals of mineral magnetism, key magnetic parameters, and some guidance for selecting the right type of magnetic separator for particular iron ores.

Mention is made of particular laboratory tests that can be effectively applied during iron ore metallurgical testwork and these tests are likely to become more important as ore grades drop and high grade lump ores that only need crushing, screening and shipping become increasingly scarce.

Attendees will gain a clear framework to connect laboratory magnetic characterisation with selection of suitable magnetic separation equipment for plant design.

The session will conclude with a live Q&A session to address specific ores and separation challenges.

Speaker/s

Dr Mike Wort

FAusIMM(CP)
Principal Metallurgist
Mike Wort has more than 40 years’ experience in the mining industry, commencing with four years in mining geology and mineral exploration across gold, diamonds and copper. He has since developed very broad metallurgical experience spanning gold leaching; flotation of metallic sulphide ores (Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn); copper oxide ores processed by flotation and leaching, including SX and EW; heavy mineral sands recovery using gravity, magnetic and electrostatic separation; iron ore processing by magnetics, gravity and flotation; lithium, tin and tantalum recovery by gravity and flotation; and industrial minerals processed through a range of methods, including flotation.
