Charters Towers Mine Model Restoration
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the discovery of gold in Charters Towers and its 6 million ounce production history, the NQ Branch, partnered by the Zara Clark Museum Volunteers, will open the restored Gold Mines of Australia 1935 Glass Model on Saturday 28th May 2022.
About this event
The work has been enabled by a Charters Towers Regional Council
Regional Arts Development Fund Grant, by local mining companies and by
countless volunteer hours.
The work has included the restoration of remaining historic glass panes,
digital reconstruction of missing panes, dust proofing, interpretive maps
and signage, and computer displays illustrating the 150 year mining
history of the 180 km of hidden underground workings along its 5km
strike length.
Charters Towers is about 1 hour 30 minutes drive from Townsville;
however allow additional time for delays due to ongoing road works.
If you plan to stay overnight book early, as accommodation is
short due to construction activity in the region.
Take advantage of all Charters Towers has to offer while in town. All
events are optional; please indicate which events you will attend.
