Annual Delprat Lecture Series - Time to show our Mettle!
The AusIMM North West Queensland Branch will host the annual Metallurgical Society Delprat Lecture “Time to show our 'mettle'!" presented by Peter Hayes.
About this event
The annual lecture series celebrates the life of Guillaume Daniel Delprat, who was an engineer and metallurgist, and a pioneer of Australian mining industry.
Peter Hayes is Emeritus Professor of Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Queensland.
Professor Hayes has 46 years experience of teaching and curriculum development in extractive metallurgy, and his textbook “Process Principles in Minerals and Materials Production” is currently in its 4th edition. The focus of Professor Hayes’ research has been in the field of pyrometallurgy, particularly experimental studies on high temperature phase equilibria, and reaction kinetics and mechanisms in metallurgical systems. He was the Foundation Director of the Pyrometallurgy Innovation Centre (PYROSEARCH) and throughout his career developed strong collaborations with the metallurgical industry. A feature of the research has been the focus on fundamental science in support of industrial processes and process development.
Professor Hayes research contributions have been recognised with Awards from TMS and IOM3, and the Peter Hayes Honorary Symposium on Pyrometallurgy at Extraction 2018. He received a TMS Distinguished Service Award in 2018.
6.30pm arrival for a 7.00pm start.
