PD Hours

Join the Sydney Branch for their exciting ANSTO Tour Field Trip.

About this event

Join the AusIMM Sydney Branch for an exclusive 3.5 hour guided tour of ANSTO Lucas Heights campus. ANSTO is home to The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, one of the country’s largest public research facilities.

Participants will learn about ANSTO’s role in science, energy and resources, health, and infrastructure, as well as the safety, engineering, and operational practices that underpin its work.

The tour will have a special focus on ANSTO Minerals, hosted by Dr Chris Griffith.

For over 50 years, ANSTO Minerals has delivered innovative technologies and expertise to the critical and strategic minerals industry, offering a comprehensive range of process development services, including pilot and demonstration plant construction and operation, consultancy services and technical reviews. These have focused on the commodities of uranium, rare earths, scandium, lithium, zirconium, niobium and hafnium.  More recently, on behalf of the Australian Critical Minerals Research and Development Hub, ANSTO Minerals has undertaken major capital works ($12M) to upgrade its piloting facilities for the purification of high purity quartz and the processing of low grade clay-hosted rare earths ores.

The tour will be conducted under strict safety and security requirements and led by knowledgeable guides to ensure an informative and engaging experience. This tour is suitable for students and industry professionals interested in critical and strategic minerals processing, advanced technology, research infrastructure, and highly regulated operational environments.
