About this event
Our speaker, Dr Sandra Close, Director, Surbiton Associates Pty Ltd began her career almost 60 years ago as the first female full-time field geologist in Australia and possibly the world and will speak on the history of the employment of women in the mining industry.
This talk will give an outline of the AusIMM's activities regarding women in the industry and the development of WIMnet. Dr Close will also include some perspectives and observations gained over a very long career, as well as some practical tips for women and men working in the industry.

She remains a pioneer and trailblazer, leading by example to promote and encourage the advancement of women in the mining industry, for the benefit of the industry as a whole. She will share some of her insights and suggestions, based on her long and varied experience.
She is an active member of the AusIMM and has served in many roles, including Councillor and Board member and the formation of WIMnet.
