Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone
I am proud to say I am a Qualified Heavy Mobile Plant Mechanic.
Coming from a background with no mechanical experience or knowledge, did I ever envision myself where I am today? “Hell no”.
Being a mother of two young boys, having a partner who was gone three weeks at a time, and taking on a four-year apprenticeship; was I crazy? Maybe, but I was determined.
The first two years into my apprenticeship were probably the hardest. Trying to learn and understand a trade I had no clue about. However, Epiroc provided me with a great support network and the resources I needed to thrive. The people I have met along the way have played a major role in my journey, including my family. And for that I will be forever thankful.

By the time I had reached my third and fourth year, I had started working independently and gained a lot more confidence in myself and my work. I stepped out of my comfort zone and headed for site where I’m currently based, doing Field Service breakdowns, working out of our Epiroc Maintenance workshop, and carrying out routine inspections and repairs, all while continuing to learn.
I hope my story can inspire other women who are considering getting into this industry. Don’t stop trying, but most importantly, never give up.
