Iron and Steelmaking Workshop

The workshop is an introduction to ironmaking and steelmaking processes as well as the impact of iron ore properties.

Topics covered include iron ore raw materials, the different ironmaking processes and integrated iron and steelmaking, agglomeration (sintering, pelletising), the blast furnace (sinter, lump, pellets) and steelmaking (P, S removal), ore properties, research into emissions reduction and value-in-use. Competency-based workshop designed for those working in the areas of iron ore geology/exploration, mine planning/mining engineering, metallurgy, and marketing.

Dr John Clout (FAusIMM, MISIJ) is internationally recognised expert in relating iron ore properties to downstream processing performance including sintering, pelletising and lump blast furnace performance and impact of ore trace elements on steelmaking. John has over 29 years’ experience in the iron ore industry, consulting to steelmills on sintering and pellet making and applied high temperature research (previously at the CSIRO).
